New Features for AP Word

The March 2026 update to AP for Word is our biggest yet — a redesigned toolbar, new comment tools, and new features like in-app editing. Here’s what’s new in AP Word.

Part of AP’s promise is a consistent experience across Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Canvas, and other EDU platforms. We’ve brought toolbar innovations from AP for Chrome to AP for Word and combined all AP settings into one page.

New customizations, available to AP+ and institutional subscribers, allow you to choose between having just your favorite Comments or ALL your Comments in the toolbar. Prefer a more compact toolbar or to organize by Comments by Group? You can now toggle Small Buttons on from AP Settings or flip to organize by Group. More Comments visible at a glance, less scrolling.

Settings are saved to your user account, so your preferences follow you wherever you use AP (including from Word to Chrome).

Need to make a small tweak to an existing Comment? All users can now just right-click a Comment to edit without leaving Word, just like in AP for Chrome. And of course, you can also create new Comments from inside AP for Word.

AP+ and Institutional subscribers can now persist Feedback Forms, using the new “Keep Window Open” option, to avoid having to reopen the form each time you want to use it. This is one of several updates to how Feedback Forms work, targeted at allowing you to create more impactful and specific feedback.
