We’re excited to announce the third edition of the College Edition Library for Annotate PRO, the writing skills teacher companion trusted by thousands of educators. This update is free for all existing users of the Library.
What’s New in This Edition?
Since our last major revision in late 2021, we’ve made several significant improvements:
Checklists
Annotate PRO has added a new feature, Checklists, as a way to add variety and specificity to your content. Be it a list of potential items to praise or a checklist to review a paper’s compliance with MLA/APA/CMS formatting guidelines, we’ve baked several new checklists into the College Edition Library.
Rich Text Improvements
AP can now add rich text like bolding and italics in places it’s not natively supported like Google Docs comments and Canvas Speedgrader. We updated the College Edition Library to use this in sections like style guide rules to aid in the clarity of communicating guidelines. We’ve also added support for inserting hyperlinked text where supported, and in cases where it’s not, AP automatically converts hyperlinks to written-out links. We revised the dozens of comments that used links to now use hyperlinks and validated that all links are active, ensuring a smoother user experience.
 Expanded 11guide Content
We’ve expanded our 11guide, our free and ad-free academic guide, with new content. This expansion was partly in response to some writing guides we previously linked to bombarding users with ads (looking at you with contempt Purdue OWL) or changing links to valuable content without putting in a redirect and thus sending students to blank pages. Our new content covers various topics, from basic English grammar (including resources specifically tailored for ESL students) to essential presentation skills. By creating this content ourselves, we can guarantee its accuracy and stability, providing reliable resources for you to aid your students in the comprehension of complex topics.
Addressing AI in Academia
Recognizing the growing role of AI in education, we’ve added a new comment group specifically addressing AI content. This includes guidance on reminding students about the importance of disclosing AI use, tactfully requesting original student work, formatting guidelines for AI-generated content, and more. We’ve also updated our MLA, APA, and CMS comments to cover each style guide’s pertinent rules regarding AI use in academic writing.
