Educators around the world are adjusting to a new reality that requires all teaching be delivered online.

One of our most compelling and effective tools – our physical presence – has been taken off the table, at least for the foreseeable future (and none of us can see very far down the road at this point).

We absolutely agree with the advice coming from many voices urging teachers to keep things simple, to focus on their own health, their family’s health, and to understand that their students often have wildly extreme access to technology and the Internet. Now is not the time to “take courses online” but rather to lead with empathy. Teachers may not be comfortable with Zoom. Students may have one laptop in a house with five other students. Residential Internet connectivity may be shaky with millions working and studying from home.

To support educators who want to continue providing feedback at a high level while saving time doing it, 11trees is offering Annotate PRO‘s premium features and content free to individual teachers through December 31, 2020.

Annotate PRO (AP) makes it easy to create and share libraries of reusable comments – across Canvas SpeedGraderGoogle ClassroomGoogle DocsGmailSchoologyD2LMicrosoft TeamsMicrosoft WordMicrosoft Outlook (web) and Blackboard – almost anywhere you can type.

Teachers can install Annotate PRO in seconds and create a free individual account with full access to all individual features and our College Edition and Legal Writing Edition Libraries. After December 31 teachers will revert to free accounts – keeping all the content they created and with the ability to use AP forever with key EDU platforms like Google Docs, Word, Canvas and others.

Institutions can license AP to facilitate sharing of feedback libraries, streamlining student engagement and aligning curriculum with assessment. Contact us if you’d like to explore using AP to scale engagement at your institution.

If you have already paid for an individual AP license – THANK YOU! It is hugely meaningful to us when teachers see enough value in AP that they choose to pay for it themselves. Your support is crucial to the continued growth of AP.

If you are an existing loyal subscriber we hope you will be extending your subscription by 9 months.

Annotate PRO (AP) has always had a powerful free version, and that isn’t changing. With AP, teachers can create simple or sophisticated libraries of reusable comments they can use to quickly provide feedback in Google Docs, Canvas, Microsoft Word and other learning platforms. The screenshot below shows AP’s sidebar alongside document markup in Canvas’ SpeedGrader feature. The same basic experience is available with Google Docs, Microsoft Word and other learning platforms. You can hide the sidebar and use a right-click menu or ALT-A to surface your comments.

The thousands of teachers already using AP for free, and any new teachers signing up, will get our advanced features and our College Edition Library to use through June 30, 2020.

The College Edition Library contains over 230 comments targeting argument, organization, style, mechanics and research so that anyone providing feedback on academic writing can avoid reinventing the wheel. You’ll find articulate explanations, most with links to additional resources, explaining everything from comma splices to counterargument. Of course you can quickly modify all of this content to suit your teaching, extend it to cover additional topics or create new libraries of comments meaningful to you.

Institutions can use AP to create and share libraries of comments – everything from core writing across the curriculum feedback to school resources to discussion board intervention templates.
