Download and Install the Writers' Toolkit PDF Print E-mail

The Writers' Toolkit is a lightweight add-in for Microsoft Word (2007 and 2010 versions). Installation will only take a few minutes, and you can easily uninstall the add-in at any time. The Writers' Toolkit is FREE for students and writers of all kinds.

Make sure you have exited Microsoft Word before beginning this process. If you already have a version of the Writers' Toolkit installed, uninstall it via Windows Add/Remove programs (Programs and Features in Windows 7).

You must have Administrator rights on your computer to install the Writers' Toolkit.

 

Step 1: Download and Install Microsoft .NET

(Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows 7 users should be able to skip this step - .NET is built into your software already.)

Windows XP and Vista users need to install a free Microsoft component called .NET to run the Writers' Toolkit. The link below is to the latest and greatest version from Microsoft. You must have .NET installed on your computer in order to install the Toolkit.

Depending on your Internet connection speed, this download might take a few minutes. You may also need Administrator rights on your PC.

  1. Download Microsoft NET 3.5 (required)
  2. Follow the installation instructions. The installation can take a few minutes. Don't worry, you won't have to repeat this process if you upgrade your version of Annotate at a later date.

 

 

Step 2: Download and Install the Writers' Toolkit

There are detailed, step by step instructions below to help you.

  1. Download the appropriate Writers' Toolkit setup Program

  2. Unzip to a directory on your computer (you can save it anywhere - just make sure you can find it! Save this file for easy installation on the other computers you use)

  3. Double-click the Setup.exe file

  4. Click 'Ok' to install the various components and also Writers' Toolkit

  5. After the installation has completed, open Microsoft Word

  6. The first time you open Microsoft Word, you should be asked to approve a new program - Writers' Toolkit. Click 'Okay' to approve the program.

  7. The Writers' Toolkit tab should be to the right of the  Home tab in Microsoft Word.

  8. Click on any menu option to open the Writers' Toolkit within Word. You can resize and move this window.

  9. Register to make sure you hear about updates, bug fixes etc.
