Why another online writing handbook?

You would think this sort of thing would have been done already. But the bulk of the sites dedicated to an online writing guide:

1. Look like they were created in 1995
2. Pull together a hodge-podge of sources, which can be very confusing to a developing writer
3. Feature poor design
4. Aren't updated very regularly

Why? Because schools have a vested interest in propping up the publishing industry. And so generations of students have entered high school or college and bought a $70 book that basically summarizes information available for free on the Internet.

While we build our writing guide resources, this site will remain free. Some of the key areas will always be free. Please enjoy our growing resource, send us comments, suggestions, and criticisms. In 2010 we will release a business model that will change the world of writing handbooks forever - simultaneously slashing the cost of the resource to schools and students while dramatically improving the usability of crucial information. 

We formally launch the 11trees.com writing handbook for college and high school writers on April 1 2010.
