Step 1: Download the Annotate for Word 2003 Template

Make sure you have exited Microsoft Word before beginning this process.

Annotate for Word 2003 can be installed and uninstalled in seconds. The first step is to download the Annotate for Word 2003 Template. Make sure you download it to a folder that you can easily locate (like your desktop):

• Annotate for Word 2003/XP/2000 Free Edition (Windows XP or Windows Vista)

Step 2: Make a Copy of Annotate for Word 2003

You should make a copy of the file, and store it somewhere safe. Should you ever need to reinstall Annotate, you can use this backup. You can also use it on additional personal computers that you use (school/home etc.).

Step 3: Paste Annotate into your Microsoft Word STARTUP folder

Paste a copy of Annotate for Word 2003 into your Microsoft Word 2003 Startup folder. This will ensure Annotate starts every time you open Microsoft Word.

There are detailed, step by step instructions below to help you. You will need Administrative rights to your computer in order to install Annotate for Word 2003. Please note that Annotate for Word does NOT interfere with your Normal template, or other add-ins you may have installed.

1. Make Microsoft Word 2003 is closed.
2. Open Windows Explorer to browse the folder structure of your computer.
3. Make sure you can view "Hidden files and folders"
   • In Windows Explorer click Tools, then Folder Options
   • Click the View tab
   • Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected (see images below)

   • Windows XP	Windows Vista

4. Open File Explorer and browse to the following location, depending on whether you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista. <user name> is simply the name you used to set up your computer.
   • Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
   • Windows Vista: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup\
5. Delete any previous versions of Annotate for Word that you find in the Startup folder.

6. Paste Annotate for Word 2003 into the Word Startup folder

7. Open Microsoft Word 2003

8. You should see the Annotate menu (just to the right of the File menu), have an Annotate toolbar, and have the Annotate menu in your right-click menu after selecting text in a document.
